TON vs Telegram Stars: why the gift market uses TON
Two currencies appear around Telegram gifts. They do different jobs.
Telegram Stars
Stars are bought inside Telegram and spent inside Telegram: on regular gifts, on upgrades, on transfer fees. Telegram also expresses the value of upgraded gifts in Stars. Stars cannot be sent to another person as money.
TON
TON is the cryptocurrency of the Telegram ecosystem. It lives in wallets (Wallet in Telegram, Tonkeeper and others), transfers in seconds and can carry a comment. That makes it the natural currency for a secondary market: a buyer anywhere can pay, and the payment can be matched to an order.
What Fuji Gift Market does
Lots are priced in TON. Telegram's Star valuation is converted to TON at the current rate for reference, and the Fuji Store lots are listed from that value. Inside the mini-app the same market trades in GRAM, pegged 1:1 to TON.
For a buyer
You do not need Stars to buy a gift on the market — only TON in a wallet. Delivery, including any Star fee Telegram charges for the transfer, is part of the price.
